As young families transition to their back-to-school routine, I have had a number of dads say it is harder than ever to establish a good life-balance. “It is absolutely insane with all the kids’ activities and my wife and I working full-time. We have not eaten dinner as a family this month!” He also said that technology and the hybrid model of working remote with two to three days in-office a week has blurred the lines between work and home.

Were you in the room when your first child was born? For many, myself included, that became a moment of emotional and spiritual awakening to the significance of the role of a father. One moment my heart burst with pride and the next it ached with the realization of how ill-prepared I was to raise a child that I could hold in the palm of my hand.
When did you become a man? Was there a particular time or event at which you recognized that you had indeed moved from boyhood to manhood? Maybe it was graduation from high school or bootcamp; getting your license or getting married. As the man of the house, it is my job to ensure that ants, roaches and spiders stay outside. This requires periodic treatment of a concentrate around the foundation of the house and the window sills. In our area, depending on rain, treatment every six to eight weeks keep the pests subdued.
Well, it is time to put a wrap on summer unless you live in Houston – then you know we have a couple more months to enjoy the heat and humidity. But high school football practice starting and marching bands in the parking lots are markers for the end of summer. I hope you have made some memories this summer as a family – maybe a special trip, a fishing outing or a summer camping experience.
