Imagine receiving a windfall from a great uncle that places $1440 in an account every day. The stipulation is that all the money has to be spent that day. If not, the account gets zeroed out at the end of the day and replenished with $1440 the next morning. That is $10,800 a week! How would you manage that money? Would it be well spent?

There are 1440 minutes each ...read on

Daggum, it happened again! I parked the truck, turned off the ignition and put the keys in my lap while I answered a few texts. Then I grabbed my satchel as I got out of the truck, locked the doors and headed to a meeting. Two steps away, I realized I had locked the keys in the truck, again. AAA coverage was needed, again.

The American Automobile Association has been around over 120 years covering all kinds of roadside assistance when one runs into unexpected trouble. Similarly, dads are to ...read on

He did not know until years later that his mother had been praying for him every day since he had left home. Through a life caught up in the world, the peaks and valleys she was not even aware of, and through months of no contact, she simply prayed.

Some of the most powerful feedback I have received over the years of ministry has been around ...read on

Count your blessings. Sometimes they are obvious – A milestone realized; a child being born; a move into a new level of relationship with a son or daughter; an anniversary. And sometimes they are not as obvious – A job loss; a child in an unhealthy relationship; an addiction; a bad health diagnosis.

At times we have no idea what the Lord may be up to but ...read on

Are you blessed? Of course you are. My question here is more specific - Were you blessed by your dad? I talk often about blessing children, but to bless a child, a dad must be blessed. As I say in the Dads Armor study and our retreats, a man must first be a son before he can be a father.

An informal survey conducted over the last twenty-plus years of ministry suggests about 3% of men ...read on

Are you “doing dad”, to the best of your ability? Are you looking for the owner’s manual to help with raising children? Are you juggling all the kids’ activities with some degree of sanity? Are you wondering how two such different kids came from the same parents?

“What are you doing here?” may be “doing dad” in your own strength. Then there is the follow-up question, “What are you ...read on

With the Super Bowl behind us, March madness in front of us and baseball season right around the corner, the spring sports season is full steam ahead. Kids want to do it all. Coaches want kids to specialize earlier and earlier. Dad and mom struggle with when enough is enough and how to keep church and academics as priorities.

I love sports. If it involved ...read on

What does bold love bring to mind for you? I think of moms. Loving a newborn, feeding and nurturing a child while working through all the stages of exhaustion is not for the faint of heart. And that is just the start of a life-long journey of a mother’s love for her child. Moms boldly love their kids through the peaks and valleys of life.

I also think of Billy Graham and his ...read on

Who comes to mind as an historically bold leader on the world stage? Certainly, President Abraham Lincoln boldly led our nation through the civil war. General George S. Patton boldly led his troops across France, deep into Nazi Germany and on to victory in World War II.

At the onset of WWII, President Franklin D. Roosevelt tapped ...read on

Bold is synonymous with brave, daring and courageous. These are characteristics every dad should exemplify and every child wishes to be affirmed in. The challenge for dads today who want to be more intentional with their example of standing strong, being brave and courageous is that tolerance and passivity seem to be the social norms.

Often courage and bravery are associated with ...read on
