Are you like me, still wondering what in the world happened to September and October? In fact the world happened! The busy-ness of the world distracted me as the months zipped right by. Now I am in danger of being distracted from the REASON for the season.
The Word on the REASON is: “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.” – Luke 2:10-11.
- This Christmas focus on the greatest gift of all - the birth of the Christ child, Jesus, the Word made flesh. As Christians, we must be keenly aware of the worldly influences that work to distract our families from the Reason for the season. Keep the focus on Jesus the CHRIST and be a Kingdom influence in this world. The Lord will bless you as you reflect the good news of great joy.
Tips to focus on the Reason for the Season:
- Read Luke 1:26-2:20 together as a family.
- Lead a discussion on the Babe in the manger and God’s plan of redemption.
- Volunteer for a service project as a family – serving in a meal line, delivering gifts, etc.
Prayer guide: My Father who art in Heaven, thank You for Your Son. I confess that I have not focused on the real story of Christmas in a long time. Nor have I lead my family in reading Luke’s account of the “good news of great joy!” Forgive me for succumbing to worldly influences and letting my focus drift. Help me stand firm against the distractions and lead in the Way starting with reading the passage from Luke on the real REASON for the season with the whole family. Amen
