If you are not a touchy-feely guy, you may see this as a time of reckoning for all those huggers out there. But do not discount the power of touch. In his book, “Impossible People”, Os Guinness refers to Peter Damian as the impossible man. Wow, it was quiet! Five days backpacking in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado with no Internet, no cell service, no news and no other folks on the trail. It was just dads and sons enjoying God’s creation, fellowship and man-to-man discussion each evening. We covered over 30 miles and went from 8300’ elevation to 12,000’ at the Continental Divide. What is next? We have been through a lot. Alan Jackson’s song, “Where Were You?”, written after the attack on the World Trade Center towers in 2001, comes to mind. The song asks, “Where were you when the world stopped turnin’ on that September day?” And it ends with, “I’m just a singer of simple songs, I’m not a real political man. I watch CNN, but I’m not sure I can tell you the diff’rence in Iraq and Iran. But I know Jesus and I talk to God, and I remember this from when I was young - faith, hope, and love are some good things He gave us. And the greatest is love.”
