In his book “Choose the Life”, Bill Hull puts forth a challenge for Christ-likeness in this world. The call is to believe what Christ believed, live as Jesus lived, love as Jesus loved, serve as Jesus served and lead as Jesus led. It is a call for transformation! This is a call for men and fathers to be transformed, to step up as the leaders the next generation needs. read on...

In his book “Deep & Wide – Creating Churches Unchurched People Love to Attend”, Andy Stanley speaks of the five pillars on which he and his team built a church. The pillars are what he calls the five faith catalysts that all on the Christian walk have experienced to some degree. The book explains how a church can be built to nurture the respective catalysts and empower the congregation to be the Church.

As dads, and as priests in your homes, these catalysts should be nurtured in family as well to empower the next generation to walk boldly in the Truth. Being the Church in family will Create Generational Kingdom Builders. read on ...

Are you like me, still wondering what in the world happened to September and October? In fact the world happened! The busy-ness of the world distracted me as the months zipped right by. Now I am in danger of being distracted from the REASON for the season.

The Word on the REASON is: “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.” – Luke 2:10-11.

To borrow a quote from Stephen Covey, “Begin with the end in mind.” Here is a great example to reference – a 23 year old that gets it:

The headline read, “Miss World – Gorgeous Enough to Speak Hard Truths.” Crowned Miss Philippines 2013, Miss Megan Young was crowned Miss World 2013, despite her strong conservative beliefs. Speaking to television network ANC, she told the host: “I’m pro-life. …I am against abortion.”
ANC Host: What about contraception?
Young: “Well, I don’t engage in stuff like that as of now. I think that sex is for marriage.”  Read on...

In the 1945 movie, “Bells of St. Mary’s” Bing Crosby played a Jesuit priest overseeing a Catholic school. When bullying occurred as it does among boys, Sister Benedict provided boxing lessons for the boy being bullied. The confidence boost for the young man equipped him to stand firm against the bully upon the next encounter. Through their battle the boys grew up a bit and established a mutual respect for each other, for their teacher and for the school. Read more...

Voucher systems that equip some students to go to private schools when their public school is failing to meet key education parameters have documented impressive results in Washington D.C., Louisiana and elsewhere. In other areas, Charter schools have been created as a function of school districts thinking outside the box to create a more dynamic learning environment. While impressive initiatives, these are still just fixes. The solution rests elsewhere. Read more ...

The A-Rod saga ramped up when he got hit by a pitch in a game against the Red Sox. His mangager, Joe Girardi in turn lost his composure and got thrown out of the game. It’s no better for the boys of winter - Von Miller is looking at suspension due to violating the NFL’s drug policy and there are numerous cheap hits and swinging helmet incidents under review by the NFL after just the second week of the preseason! Is this what healthy competition on a playing field where rules of the game are to be enforced consistently has become? It seems that players and coaches today respond to pressure with a focus on self instead of with respect for something bigger than themselves– in these cases, the GAME.
A better story - read on...

Baseball, hotdogs and apple pie – staples for summertime in America. But the boys of summer have lost some luster the last few years. The time is being referred to as the “steroid era” - Who used and who didn’t – who knows? A-Rod is the most recent athlete caught up in the mess. The game that is all about history and statistics has cracks in its structure. Men from this era with Hall of Fame numbers are automatically suspect. Some suggest that an asterisk be put by their names if they are admitted to the Hall. Others say to not admit them regardless of the numbers because they “cheated”. Still others say the system, the road to the major leagues is so demanding that any athlete at times has to feel he is a fool to try and compete without enhancement. The noise that is the steroid era is tainting what the game was meant to be.
The t-shirt reads, Baseball is Life. Since the Big Inning, noise that is sin in man’s life has tainted the life the Lord meant for us. The challenge before us today is to navigate through the noise and stay under the influence of the right stuff. Read on ...

Fields of study have been discussed. A few schools were chosen. Applications were completed. Acceptances were received. Decisions were made. Registration is in process. The first round of (many) funds have been forwarded. The car is packed. Are you forgetting anything?

Do not forget to arm your student specifically for the next step – read more ...
