When the dad realized he had crossed the line to anger when disciplining his son for a misdeed, he was busted. In a study for dads in his church just the week prior, the instructor said that dads must not discipline kids in anger. The discipline is in vain if self-discipline is lost. In crossing the line to anger, he had failed at exhibiting self-discipline.
The dad took a knee, confessed that he was ...read on
What name is given this child? That is typically a question from the administrators at the hospital as they process a birth certificate. It is also asked when the child is baptized. The first provides connection to an earthly family. The second provides connection to the Lord and a Heavenly family.
In his Truth for Life devotional, Alistair Begg writes, “In some cultures, the meanings behind names don’t matter much. We choose a name because ...read on
What will be the legacy of the present generation of dads? How will the kids of today speak of the leadership in their homes and the influence of their parents? Are you engaged as a dad and providing the spiritual leadership young people need to navigate through the cultural influences being faced?

Are you the man, husband and father the next generation needs to see? Is there a standard of reference that you are working to emulate as the leader in your home? Or is the present-day culture having more of an influence than you would like to admit, encouraging a ‘go along to get along’ mentality?
Spiritual leadership is happening in every home. The question is ...read on
When a father and son took on a project to get a 1957 Ford F-250 running, they got busy doing what they knew how to do. A good pressure washing was the first step as it had been sitting in a barn for over 30-years. Then they dropped the oil pan, replaced gaskets and rebuilt the carburetor. For young dads, the carburetor preceded fuel-injection.
Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did – with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses – 2Kings 23:25. Wow! No king - not David, Solomon, or any other king after him, turned to the Lord as Josiah did.

Time with grown kids on summer adventures, time with granddaughters and the birth of our first grandson were also wonderful high points.
At Faithful Fathering, the high points are always tied to ...read on
Is it possible to have peace on earth? Peace is defined as “freedom from disturbance; tranquility,” per Webster’s dictionary. I guess we could have our ear buds in, or noise-cancelling headphones on, and be oblivious to the world around us. We would be undisturbed and tranquil, even peaceful, for a little while.

Joy to the World may be easy to sing but how is one to be joy-filled with all the end-of-year busy-ness? What does it even mean to be joy-filled? One example is King David’s celebration when the ark of God was brought to the City of David. In 2Samuel 6:14, it says, “Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might.” King David put all the busy-ness of being king in its proper perspective, and reflected how joy-filled he was with getting the ark of God in its rightful place.

“Are you pickin’ up what I’m layin’ down?” That was a question posed by a friend from Mississippi. It was his way of verifying that I truly got what he was saying. He wanted to make sure I saw the value in what he was offering? Are your kids “pickin’ up what you are layin’ down”? Are you layin’ down your faith in a way that they want to pick it up?
In this second week of Advent, the candle lit represents the FAITH Christians have in the ...read on
