I remember talking with a friend in his final days of battling pancreatic cancer. With a smile he said, “It looks like I am going to be the first one in our small group to get promoted.” That was the last time I got to talk with my friend but the perspective he had has stuck with me to this day.
When was the last time you met with someone, maybe a friend or parent in the hospital, knowing it would be ...read on
Easter was celebrated over a month ago and many churches have moved on into new sermon series topics. My encouragement to dads is to spend some time here reading Acts and the letters contemplating how emboldened the apostles, normal men had become after Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.
Another resource I recommend is Dr. Del Tackett’s ...read on
I am on a quest to declare May as Mother’s Day Month for two reasons – First, I was in the delivery room when our children were born and what I witnessed deserves much more than one Hallmark card day of pampering; Second, June is Father’s Day Month and I want to set the right tone for every dad to enjoy that month to the full.

An annual tribute to my mother and an encouragement to you: She was an incredible woman. Born in 1921, she aspired to be a vocal performer. As a senior in high school, she contracted tuberculosis. Her dream to perform was no longer possible and the vocal scholarship to attend college was rescinded. She married a handsome Navy pilot just before he was deployed to the South Pacific Theater in WWII. He returned quite a different man than the one she married ...read on
I love being a dad! To have the opportunity to reflect my Heavenly Father in the home and in the lives of the children is daunting. If the doctor knew me, he would never have allowed me to walk out of the hospital with my bride holding that tiny new-born that would be completely dependent on us for everything.
Things changed that first Easter not quite 2000 years ago. A new day dawned in the hearts and minds of Jesus’ disciples. All the teaching, the parables and the miracles would have a new light shown on them. While darkness seemed to envelop all Friday and Saturday, Jesus’ light blasted through on Sunday.
There is a lot going on this week at most churches. There is Maundy Thursday when many churches put on a ‘Live Last Supper’ production. Then Good Friday commemorates the Passion, crucifixion and death of Jesus the Christ. All goes dark on Friday. On Sunday, all is bright in celebration of the resurrection of our Savior and Lord!
The historical week actually started with ...read on
Being clean covers a wide spectrum of challenges. To a dad in the midst of the diaper years it can mean one thing. And when a teenage son confesses to his dad that he is struggling with pornography, it takes on a whole different meaning.
Imagine receiving a windfall from a great uncle that places $1440 in an account every day. The stipulation is that all the money has to be spent that day. If not, the account gets zeroed out at the end of the day and replenished with $1440 the next morning. That is $10,800 a week! How would you manage that money? Would it be well spent?
Daggum, it happened again! I parked the truck, turned off the ignition and put the keys in my lap while I answered a few texts. Then I grabbed my satchel as I got out of the truck, locked the doors and headed to a meeting. Two steps away, I realized I had locked the keys in the truck, again. AAA coverage was needed, again.
The American Automobile Association has been around over 120 years covering all kinds of roadside assistance when one runs into unexpected trouble. Similarly, dads are to ...read on
