From day-one on the job, he was engaged in the company’s “Field Engineer to Executive Development Program”. It was a five-year process that included specific training for the job at hand and development for two or three jobs down the road. There were technical, sales and management dimensions of the program that helped prepare a university educated young man for the reality of the business world.
When the doctor said, “You are a daddy to a little girl,” the reality of the fathering world had him looking for the training manuals for this new role. He wanted to be at least as engaged in raising their daughter as he was in his day job. Over the years, the Bible proved to be the best book of reference but there were several other studies he worked through with other dads that provided practical application of the word of God.
…You need milk, not solid food. Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness because he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature – for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil. – Hebrews 5:12-14. The writer of Hebrews admonished the men for being passive, for drinking milk and failing to embrace the message about righteousness. The Word is timeless. Today’s families need mature dads that eat solid food and are trained to distinguish between good and evil. Inexperience is not an option – a generation is in the balance.

Prayer guide: Lord, thank You for Your word and for studies developed under Your word. I confess that I have allowed the line between good and evil to get fuzzy in my life and correspondingly in what I have allowed into the home. I have granted the world more influence in our children’s lives than I have You! Forgive me. Help me mature in Your word, to eat solid food and provide the nourishment needed for my family to be grounded in relationship with You and be able to distinguish between good and evil. Strengthen me as the father You call me to be, the dad my kids need. Amen.
