It is getting noisy out there and we are not just talking about the playground. This latest mandate from the federal government to the states for public schools to change common sense bathroom and locker room policies is confusing to kids. Confusion of course is the point. In this hyper-sexualized age lines have been blurred on sexuality and healthy relationships. Pornography has played a major role on this journey the past number of years especially as the Internet introduced a new level of accessibility, affordability and anonymity. The result is confusion running rampant in young minds.

In the beginning, “God created man in His own image, … male and female He created them.”- Gen. 1:27. He said, “a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” – Gen.2:24. “And why one? Because He was seeking godly offspring.”- Malachi 2:15. God’s word is pretty straight forward but since the beginning, man has struggled with sexuality and healthy relationships. Sin in Sodom & Gomorrah was so grievous that God destroyed the cities sparing only Lot and his family. King David failed to keep his marriage bed pure with just one wife. He took eight wives including Bathsheba after an adulteress affair with her. King Solomon followed in his father’s footsteps taking hundreds of wives. Sexual sin has been chosen over purity by man and whole societies throughout the ages.

Open Door: “I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door which no one can shut. I have done this because you have limited strength, yet you have obeyed My word and have not denied My name.” – Revelation 3:8. The open door is the Cross. Jesus the Christ obeyed the will of His Father all the way to the point of death on the Cross. Through His obedience, He opened the door to relationship with the Father through Him. Christians walk through that door as we confess and repent of sin. Then, the expectation is obedience under His word and to not deny His name.

Here in Texas, Governor Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick are pushing back against the Federal mandate in public schools. As citizens, a suggestion might be to call your local school and ask that the bathroom in the teachers’ lounge and nurse’s office be made accessible to those confused about gender identity. This would minimize confusion and allow the other 99.5% of students to maintain normality across the day. As parents, accept responsibility to live by example and teach your kids about sexuality and healthy relationships. As Christians, the call is to stand firm with feet readied with the Gospel and His Light will blast through this confusing time.

Prayer guide: Lord, I thank You for creating male and female. Thank You for defining marriage and for the opportunity to raise godly offspring. Thank You for Your word, it is so very clear on healthy relationships and sexual morality. Thank You for opening the door to You through Your Son, that by Your grace I have been able to confess and repent when I have stumbled in the confusion that is the world. Grant me strength to stand firm in obedience to Your word and glorify You where You have me. Amen.
